Kirkcolm Community Trust is committed to driving social and economic development while safeguarding the environment. Our mission is to create a thriving community where people of all ages can enjoy a high quality of life. Established in 2017, we have been working tirelessly to support local projects that benefit the entire parish.
Our vision is to see Kirkcolm flourish as a vibrant, sustainable community. We aim to achieve this through various initiatives that promote economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social well-being. By collaborating with residents and stakeholders, we strive to make Kirkcolm a better place to live, work, and play.

Constitution, Members, Funds, Management

Status

Established by the Community Council

A 2 tier Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), regulated by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

Scottish charity number SCO47165.

Management

The Trust is managed by a Board of Trustees who are appointed by our members at our Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The Trust can also call an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) for specific issues as and when required.

What we are not

We are not a Community Council.

We are not regulated by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

We are not privately owned.

We are not a business but manage our affairs and assets in a business-like way for the benefit of the community.

Our Constitution

Based on national standards and regulated by OSCR.

Minor changes can be managed by the Board.

Major changes have to be approved in a general meeting (AGM or EGM) and also approved by OSCR.

Members

Members must be members of the parish of Kirkcolm and must be over 16 years of age.

There is no cost to become a member and there is no liability associated with membership.

Raise issues with Trustees or Trust staff.

Ask to see our meeting minutes or financial reports.

Managing our Funds

We raise funds through Grants and earned income such as rentals, etc.

Our Treasurer reports monthly.

Our financial returns are independently audited and must be approved at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and by OSCR.

Decision Making

Decisions relating to the Trust and its activities are delegated to The Board of Trustees. 

The Board meets monthly and can consist of up to nine Trustees. Quorum for Board meetings is three Trustees.

What can we do?

We can own and manage property.

We can employ staff.

We can undertake activities approved by our Board and at General Meetings (AGM/EGM).

All of our income must be used for charitable purposes.
